Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) is the collection of signs and symptoms
resulting from the violent shaking of an infant or small child. An infant or
small child's brain is soft and easily damaged by impact. The act of
shaking a child this age whips their head back and forth or sideways
causing their brain to impact on the inside of the skill, causing severe
bruising and/or bleeding. This can result in permanent brain damage
causing various degrees of mental disabilities, a vegetative state, or
death.
