Dear Sir,
Will you kindly give me a brief history of Bartholomew Forbush,
who was a private in the Revolutionary war, was in the first
regiment of NY. I am very anxious to learn where he was born,
where he enlisted, and where he died. Any information you can
give me will be greatly appreciated.

Christina Hawkins
of the town of Dearfield in the county of Onieda and state aforesaid, now the wife of Isaiah
Hawkins, being duly sworn, under oath doth depose and say; that she is now in the twenty
fifth year of her age; that she was the daughter of Jacob Forbush; that she was born in the
now Town of Dearfield, in the now county of Herkimer, at the time of the breaking out of the
Revolutionary war and continued to reside there until they were driven away from their
home by the enemy during said war.
And this deponent further saith that she had a brother by the name of Bartholomew who
was several years older than this deponent.
And this deponent further saith that Bartholomew Forbush, her brother aforesaid, enlisted in
the Army during the Revolutionary war in the Company commanded at the time of the
enlistment by one Andrew Fink who was the captain thereof as this deponent was informed
at the time by her brother aforesaid and by her father and by many others and verily
believes it to be true that she was well acquainted with captain Andrew Fink aforesaid.
And this deponent further saith that her brother Bartholomew aforesaid not long after he
was married as aforesaid and before the expiration of his furlough returned to his company
and continued in the service as a soldier for about one year after he was married as
aforesaid before he returned home again, that he was taken sick and that her father went
after him, obtained a furlough for her brother aforesaid and then brought him home, that
before his furlough expired he was taken a prisoner of war by the enemy and carried to
Canada.
 And this deponent further saith that she was well acquainted with said Catherine Furrey
the wife of her said brother Bartholomew, for several years previous to her marriage with
him as aforesaid.
 And this deponent further saith that her brother Bartholomew was always dressed in a
soldiers uniform when he came home.
 And this deponent further saith that her brother Bartholomew aforesaid did not return from
Canada until about the close of the war, having been absent a prisoner in Canada for three
years or thereabouts.
 And the said deponent further saith that her brother Bartholomew aforesaid always resided
at home at her father's house up to the time of his enlistmet as aforesaid that he left the
farm when he enlisted the serivce and that he made her father's home his home until the
close of the war. When he was not in service or a prisoner of war in Canada as aforesaid.
 And this deponent further saith that she always resided in her father's family until she was
married which took place about the year 1782 and deponent says that she cannot either
read or write.
 And this deponent further saith that her brother Bartholomew aforesaid and that said
Catharine his wife as aforesaid always lived together as husband and wife after their
marriage aforesaid up to the time of his death which took place about 31 years ago at the
city of Albany where he and his family then resided - that his widow never married again.
  And this deponent further saith that her brother Bartholomew was a soldier at the time he
was taken prisoner of war as aforesaid.
 And this deponent further saith that she has been informed by her brother Bartholomew
and by other persons who were present in Canada at the time that her brother aforesaid
was confined in prison -- that her brother Bartholomew aforesaid was kept in close
confinement in prison in Canada for over 18 months whilst a prisoner as aforesaid.

name is subscribed to the truth of the foregoing affidavit and was on the day of the date
thereof a Justice of the Peace in and for said county and duly authorized by the law of the

Lawrence Gros being duly sworn before me H. Cook one of the Justices of the said county
aforesaid, deposeth & says that Johan Daniel Gros who was an uncle of deponent &
deponent saying that the said Johann Daniel Gros was a regular constituted parish clergy
& preacher of the gospel, & was the pastor of the Dutch Reformed Society of Fort Plain
during the revolutionary war and deponent says that the records of the said society were
kept at the church of said society as this deponent is informed & believes, which church
and was at Fort Plain, and deponent says that the said church was destroyed by fire
during the said war, deponant says that according to his best recollection the said church
was destroyed by fire in & was done by the enemy which was in the year seventeen
hundred & eighty or eighty one, and the records of said society and church were destroyed
with said church as this deponent always understood & believes, deponent further says
that after the revolutionary war the said Johann Daniel Gros resided with the deponent and
all his papers and records in the possession of the said Johann Daniel Gros were left with
Deponent & no record of the said society was ever found among said papers & records so
left with this deponent. Deponent says that he is now sixty one years old and upwards.

In the matter of the application of a Pension of Catharine
Forbush the Widow of Bartholomew Forbush a Revolutionary
Soldier
State of New York
Oneida County
Christian Hawkins the wife of Isaiah Hawkins of the town of
Deerfield in the county of Oneida & state aforesaid being duly
sworn doth depose and says that Bartholomew Forbush
aforesaid was her brother and also Warren Forbush who
subscribed the annexed affidavit is also her brother. That
Catharine Forbush aforesaid was the wife and is now the
widow of said Bartholomew. That said Bartholomew is now
deceased, and this deponent further says that on further
investigating the marriage of her brother Bartholomew with the
aforesaid Catharine, and this deponent says that it took place
in the month of September 1779 and of which fact aforesaid
marriage after said examination and investigation --- this
deponent has no doubt and knows of her own knowledge to
be true.

I, Daniel Walker, the above named Justice of the Peace of said
county of Oneida do duly certify that Christina Hawkins whose
name is subscribed to the above affidavit is my neighbor, that i
am well acquainted with her, that she is a person of truth and
honesty and a credible person and what she says may be
relied upon as true - Daniel Walker, Justice of the Peace of
said county.

and state aforesaid, being duly sworn doth depose and say
that he is the brother of Bartholomew Forbush above named
that Catharine Forbush aforesaid was his dead brothers wife.
That his brother aforesaid is now deceased. And this
deponent further says that Christina Hawkins the wife of
Isaiah Hawkins of said town of Deerfield is the deponents
sister. And this deponent further says that in the third or
fourth year of the war of the revolution his brother aforesaid
was married to said Catharine and as this deponent verily
believes were so married, and of this he has no doubt.

Dear sir - enclosed I forward to you the affidavits of Warren
Forbush and Christina Hawkins, the brother and sister of
Bartholomew Forbush, on the subject of the marriage of
Catharine Forbush to said Bartholomew.
In your last communication you say "the original muster roll of
Capt Finks hand submitted to this office - at this time the
copy was taken, ---- ---- --- I spoke to Mr Fink on this subject
of sending the original to the pension office, to which he
replied that --- person has never intended in said papers, and
won't part with them - however, i shall call on Mr Fink again
and if possible shall obtain permission to forward said papers
