Before printed parish registers were available, different words were used to introduce the
pincipal's name.

Parents:
Parents names either preceeded or followed the principal's name. This part of the record
may give, in addition to the parents names, residence and the father's occupation. Earlier
records leave out the mother's name, while more recent ones will give both parents names.

Occupation Designation:
Occupations or titles may or may not appear in the entry. Occupations are usually listed
before or immediately after the father's name.

Witnesses:
Names of witnesses are included in almost all entires. They usually appear at the end of
the entry, and are usually names of close relatives or friends. Residences of the witnesses
are also usually recorded.
